The LG Stylo 2 series offers medium-low specs as an affordable alternative to the high-end spec flagship phone ranges. It replaces the LG G4 Stylo (2015) and in terms of price range it is around the same price range as Samsung’s Galaxy Note series, offering an alternative handset in this highly competitive space for a budget option compared to a flagship iPhone or Android device.
Both the Stylo 2 and Stylo 2 Plus are exactly the same sleek design, size and weight offering a really nice feel whilst in hand whilst looking great and being lighter than it looks.
First let’s look at the LG Stylo 2
The Stylo 2 offers a smart looking handset with a big screen, and of course the addition of the stylus pen. The 5.7-inch display is 1280 x 780 resolution with 258 ppi pixel density, which offers a nice, bright screen.
The primary camera is 13MP, whilst having a very reasonable 8MP front ‘selfie’ camera.
In terms of performance spec, it has a Quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 chipset with four Cortex-A53 cores at 1.2 GHz, and Adreno 306 GPU for gaming purposes- which is pretty much unheard of for budget handsets.
It has a 2GB RAM, with an internal storage of 16GB which is expandable to 128GB via a miscroSD card- very handy indeed.
The battery is a removable 3000 Li-Ion mAh battery which delivers up to 20 hours talk time. That’s plenty of talking!
Finally, the stylus.
The 107mm wand is incredibly slim, with a rounded nib designed to be perfect for quick use. The pen has been upgraded to have “nano coating” rather than having a rubber nib, which gives a more natural feel while writing on screen and more precision and accuracy.
Now let’s look at the Stylo 2 Plus
The Stylo 2 Plus has had an upgrade in pretty much all areas to give offer the user more bang for their buck.
Whilst keeping the same 5.7-inch screen, the display the has been stepped up to a Full HD 1920 x 1080 resolution with 386 ppi pixel density. This offers a very noticeable difference in the display, sharper, more detailed and better colour contrast- for an all round sharper display.
For performance the new handset boasts a Octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 processor with four Contex-A53 cores at 1.4GHz and another four Contex- A53 cores at 1.2 GHz along with Adreno 505 GPU. This all sounds very impressive but what does it mean? It means you get a faster processor which gives a huge boost in performance, perfect for activities such as gaming.
The Stylo 2 Plus also has an option of variants when it comes to memory- you can get the same as the Stylo 2 at 2GB RAM and 16GB internal memory, or you can get an upgraded version with double the memory at 3GB RAM and 32GB internal memory.
The camera spec has also been boosted from 13MP to 16MP for the primary camera, offering better quality snaps.
When it comes to the battery the Stylo 2 Plus keeps the Stylo 2’s removable 3000 Li-Ion mAh battery
And if security is a big deal for you, the Stylo 2 Plus has a built-in fingerprint scanner that offers fast and secure access to your private data.
