The Samsung Galaxy S8 turned heads when it was released in April. But how does it stand against the test of time? Does it still impress? We look at Samsung's flagship device a couple of months on...
The 5.8-inch AMOLED display goes from edge to edge of the chassis, leaving just a hairline bezel. Samsung calls this new edge-to-edge design the ‘Infinity Display’, and it certainly does not disappoint or lose its specialness.
The Samsung Galaxy S8 has been awarded the “best” display ever, according to DisplayMate. A new report from DisplayMate claims they have the “best” smartphone display available on the market right now, awarding it’s highest ever score- an “A+” rating.
The S8 has a 5.8” screen while the S8+ has a larger 6.2” screen, whilst keeping the Super AMOLED HD+ display. Both have the same 2960x1440px resolution, however the S8 packs in more pixels per inch of screen, offering 570 versus 529 ppi on the S8+.
The Samsung Galaxy S8 has a single-lens 12- megapixel, f/1.7 aperture snapper. It’s image processing mimics Google’s multi-shot technique by combining multiple photos into a single refined image. This doesn't sound anything special, and on paper, simply isn't... After all its predecessors, the S7 and S7 Edge, had the exact same hardware.
The S8 has more advanced processing with Multi-Frame Image Processing which means that it takes several frames in one shot and automatically blends them together by getting the sharpest details possible out of all of the frames captured. This prevents photos from being too noisy and makes them as sharp as possible.
DxOMark, the trusted camera and image quality rating source, is yet to review the S8 camera, however the S7 achieved a score of 88 out of 100. The iPhone 7 got a slightly lower rating of 86 out of 100.
You can get the Galaxy S8 for around $750, and you can get the S8+ for around $850. So, in a nutshell for $100 extra you can get a bigger screen and battery. If this appeals to you then the plus size is probably for you.
