How to Stick to your New Year’s Resolution of Staying Fit

Sticking with your New Year's Resolution of staying fit and healthy

After all of the carefree fun of the holidays; Halloween candy, Thanksgiving starches, Christmas casseroles and New Year’s Eve toxins, it is pretty safe to say we could all use a gym membership.

So it’s no wonder that 37% of Americans in 2015 had the New Year’s Resolution to “Stay fit and healthy”.

So here are some ways you can ensure you stick to that resolution, at least until January 17th, National Ditch your New Year’s Resolution Day.

MyFitnessPal is a helpful app for being conscious of your fitness level by tracking your food intake and letting you know how much nutrition is in each meal. More than five million foods are stored in its nutrition database, covering everything from a banana to the richest dessert at your favorite restaurant.

Simply point your camera at your favorite food’s barcode (usually found on the packaging) for instant tracking. If you can’t find your dinner in the database, the app can determine the calorie count of any recipe on the Internet—just copy and paste the recipe’s URL, and it will automatically calculate nutrition facts.

Even you have sworn to yourself to get to the gym more often in 2017, actually getting there can be a struggle, and once you finally arrive, it can be tough knowing what kind of workout you’d like to do.

If you struggle knowing exactly what to do for a workout (after all, you can only do the elliptical for so long until it gets boring!), try Skimble’s Workout Trainer, which offers thousands of video workouts to make gym time more interesting! With so many virtual workouts, each session at the gym is new and exciting.

Lark is one Apple's top apps of 2016. This app uses a mix of artificial intelligence and human experts to help people lose weight and get fit. Lark is basically your virtual personal health-coach!

The app uses a simple chat interface so it feels like you're texting a personal trainer, but it doesn't rely on you to enter every calorie or activity you've consumed in the day.

Lark can tell how active you have been throughout the day, or your workout by using the iPhone sensors. It can also detect how long you have slept. Just tell Lark what you had to eat and it will give you nutrition coaching based on your goals and past eating habits.
