CES 2018: Day 1

Calling all consumer electronic fans and geeks! CES 2018 has arrived and day 1 has revealed some impressive products and projects, from some of the giants of tech.

CES is the world's gathering place for all those who thrive on the business of consumer technologies. It has served as the proving ground for innovators and breakthrough technologies for 50 years — the global stage where next-generation innovations are introduced to the marketplace.

As technology drives forward faster than ever before, let's see what's in store for us this year...

Samsung has developed the MicroLED- a version of its Cinema Screen technology used in movie theaters- for your house. The new model, suitably named 'The Wall', measures a mindblowing 146 inches diagonal.

Amazon's Alexa voice assistant will come to some Toyota and Lexus vehicles in the US later this year. Drivers will be able to remotely lock a vehicle, play music, find recommendations for nearby restaurants and get directions, all using voice controls.

Honda skipped over cars and demonstrated four robot concepts instead. They included the 3E-D18.The D18 makes use of AI to get around while serving a broad range of work activities. Its four-wheel-drive electric powertrain, short ATV wheelbase, and virtually indestructible airless tires should help it to climb obstacles and get to hard-to-reach places.Honda's vision is that the 3E-D18 could be used by construction crews, firefighters, search and rescue and other rough-and-tumble enterprises that need heavy lifting done.

Sony showed its newest Aibo robot dog, cuter and more dog-like than ever before. It has OLED screen eyes, a camera in its nose and one on its back for learning the layout of your home. You pet it in three different places to show your love.

LG kicks things off with a TV from the realm of science fiction -- a 65-inch 4K OLED display that rolls into a tube. LG hasn't announced pricing or availability, let alone an explanation of how the thing actually works.

If you can't make it to Las Vegas, don't worry, we will be providing updates throughout CES and bring you the very latest innovations from tech21.
