7 Ways to Care for Your New MacBook

At tech21 we want to make sure your new MacBook lasts as long as possible. Here are 7 ways to take care of your new MacBook so it lasts forever.

Do you wishfully intend on being gifted with a MacBook this Christmas? Or maybe you already have one and want to know how to keep it in pristine condition. We want to make sure your new MacBook lasts as long as possible.

Here are 7 ways to take care of your MacBook so it lasts forever.

  1. Avoid filling up your drive to full capacity

When you fill your drive all the way up, you will notice your laptop starts operating quite slowly. We recommend keeping at least 5% of your drive free at all times to prevent your drive from ever running out of space completely. Once this happens, your computer has to keep re-writing and re-organizing new data.

  1. Restore your laptop to its original state every year

When restoring your laptop, make sure to back up your entire computer and de-authorize any apps. When installing a new and clean version of the latest OS, make sure you have a bootable USB El Capitan install drive ready to use. Insert your flash drive, reboot your Mac, select your flash drive and Disk Utilities. This will keep your laptop restored, renewed and up to date.

  1. Run updates

I think we all forget to do this one but it really is crucial for the longevity of your device. Running updates is an irritant, no doubt, but take that time as an opportunity to take a break at work, watch a show at home, or run it overnight while you are sleeping. You will be glad you did.

  1. Don’t leave your charger on continuously

You may want to sustain your charge at 100% throughout the work day but we advise against it.  Keeping your charger plugged in at all times actually kills your battery because you need to keep the electricity moving. Unplug it right after it reaches 100% and recharge it only when the battery gets fairly low.

  1. Provide drop protection

The perfect way to ensure the longevity of your new MacBook is to provide it with a case that protects against drop protection. tech21 makes cases with absolutely unbeatable drop protection for your device. The Impact Snap for MacBook not only offers advanced impact protection, but enhances your overall MacBook experience. Featuring FlexShock™ impact material, the Impact Snap case protects your device from drops, as well as delivering a secure, non-slip typing platform which minimizes vibrations for smooth, comfortable typing.

The Impact Clear, our newest case for the MacBook, uses BulletShield™ impact material, making the case ultra-thin, lightweight and completely clear, while protecting your device!

  1. Keep your laptop at an appropriate temperature

Overheating your MacBook can cause some serious long-term damage to your device. A MacBook can operate between temperatures of 50 to 95 degrees F. Be conscious of the environment you are keeping your laptop in.

  1. Empty your trash everyday

Now that’s an easy one! At the end of each work day, simply empty your trash can of the contents from the day to prevent things from piling up and slowing down your hard drive.
